Francesco Ponzi is a goldsmith and gemmologist. He works in Bagnacavallo,
near Ravenna, in the family workshop: the same bench where he learned the
trade.
The work is on the piece, from beginning to end: drawing, metal, stones,
hand engraving. Before delivery, setting and gems go through the
gemmological laboratory, so that what leaves his hands has been looked at
closely one last time.
Commissions begin with a conversation. Often it is a bespoke piece of
jewellery; sometimes a precious detail for an interior or a yacht, a watch
case to engrave, a family stone to rethink, a piece of sacred silverware
to restore. Projects come from Italy and abroad.
For the family jewellery shop and everyday services there is Ponzi
Gioielli, linked at the foot of every page. Here remains the author's work:
the pieces and the way they are built.
